Samajwadi Party Makes Comeback in Uttar Pradesh as INDIA Bloc Leads Over NDA

From winning five seats in the last election in partnership with the BSP, Akhilesh Yadav’s party in U.P. has dealt a bodyblow to the BJP, which had in 2019 won 62 seats on its own

The Samajwadi Party and Congress of the INDIA bloc are leading in 34 and 7 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission's data for polls to the 80 parliamentary constituencies showed. The BJP-led NDA leads in 35 seats.


The 202bha elections have witnessed a significant turnaround in Uttar Pradesh, with the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress-led INDIA bloc making a remarkable comeback to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The results have shown a stunning reversal of fortunes for the SP, which has won 37 seats, while the Congress secured six Lok Sabha constituencies. This marks a significant improvement from the SP's previous performance in the state, where it won only five seats in the 2019 elections.

The INDIA bloc, comprising the SP and Congress, has led the opposition charge in Uttar Pradesh, which is crucial for any party aiming to form a government at the center. The bloc has won a total of 43 seats, with the SP accounting for 37 and the Congress for six. This is a significant improvement from the 2019 elections, where the SP won only five seats and the Congress won none.
